This collection presents talks and essays by Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda on the realization of God in daily life. The preface, written by Sri Sri Daya Mata, third president and spiritual head of Yogoda Satsanga Society of India/Self-Realization Fellowship, offers a personal account of her first encounter with Paramahansa Yogananda in 1931. She describes being profoundly moved by his wisdom and divine love, leading her to follow him. Daya Mata details her experience recording his lectures, classes, and informal talks, highlighting the vast treasure of wisdom and God-love these contain. She recounts the inspiration behind her diligent transcription, even of notes taken over forty years prior, noting their freshness in her mind and her ability to inwardly hear his voice. The preface also touches upon Paramahansa Yogananda’s spontaneous and divinely inspired lectures, often delivered extemporaneously. It describes how he would connect with the audience through his warmth, humility, and humor, making each person feel personally addressed. Daya Mata further explains how, during lectures, he would sometimes enter states of divine communion, conversing directly with God and describing his inner perceptions and visions of divine figures. She emphasizes that while a book cannot fully capture the uniqueness of Paramahansa Yogananda’s personality, this collection aims to enrich the reader’s appreciation of his talks. Daya Mata expresses her joy in sharing these profound truths and devotional outpourings, hoping they will open the doors to unshakeable faith and deeper love for God. This is Volume 1 of the collected works.
