A phenomenal classic bestseller, Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies is the result of a six-year research project conducted at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Authors James C. Collins and Jerry I. Porras meticulously studied eighteen exceptional and enduring companies, comparing them directly with their top competitors. The research tracked these companies from their inception through their development as start-ups, midsize businesses, and large corporations. The central question driving this investigation was: “What sets truly exceptional companies apart from their competitors, and what consistent practices have these enduringly great companies followed throughout their history?” Packed with hundreds of specific examples, Built to Last presents a clear framework of practical concepts applicable to managers and entrepreneurs at all levels. It offers a master blueprint for constructing organizations poised for prosperity well into the 21st century and beyond. Described as a “fascinating historical study of the factors that made high-octane companies what they are today,” the book promises not to disappoint. It is also recognized as an “unusual business book—seriously researched, unconventional in its conclusions,” deemed “well worth reading, particularly by those engaged in trying to reinvigorate our nation’s largest enterprises.”
