About the Author
Emma Orczy, born Barona Emmuska Orczy on September 23, 1865, in Tarnaors, Hungary, later moved with her family to Brussels and then to London. By age 15, she was fluent in English. Her education included convent schools in Brussels and Paris, followed by studies at the West London School of Art. Together with her husband, Montague Barstow, she worked on book and magazine illustrations and published a collection of Hungarian folktales. Orczy is most renowned for her novel The Scarlet Pimpernel, achieving widespread fame in 1903 with its stage adaptation. The author passed away on November 12, 1947.
