Returns and Refund Policy

Overview

Our returns and refund policy lasts 24 hours (1 calendar day) from delivery of the product. If 24 hours (1 calendar day) have passed since the delivery of the product, we are unable to offer a refund or exchange, or return, except for items that are defective or damaged.

For items that are defective or damaged, the return and refund window is extended to 48 hours (2 calendar days) from delivery of the product. If 48 hours (2 calendar days) have passed since the delivery of the product, we are unable to offer a refund or exchange, or return.

To be eligible for a return and/or refund, the product must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.

Returns initiated without prior authorisation via email or other written electronic communication from our support team may be rejected and will not be eligible for refund or exchange.

Additional non-returnable items: Gift cards / Gift wrapping charges / Bookmarks.

Partial Refunds:

There are certain situations where only partial refunds are granted:

  • Book with visible wear such as torn pages, stains, or annotations.
  • Opened CDs, DVDs, software, or books with exposed scratchable keys.
  • Any item not in its original condition, or that is damaged or missing parts/pages for reasons not due to our error.
  • Any item requested for return after 24 hours (1 calendar day) from delivery may be considered for return only under exceptional circumstances, subject to reasonable assessment based on submitted evidence of unpacking video proof, product being unused and in original packaging.

Condition Verification Requirement (Defective or Damaged Items Only):

To support claims of damage, defect, or missing items, customers must provide a clear, uninterrupted video of the unpacking process. This video must:

  • Begin before the package is opened
  • Show the shipping label and packaging condition
  • Clearly capture the product being removed from the packaging
  • Highlight the alleged defect or damage in detail

In the absence of an unpacking video, other forms of evidence may be considered at our discretion, such as timestamped photographs or courier damage reports.

Claims without unpacking video may be rejected if the submitted evidence is insufficient to verify the issue.

Refunds

Once your return is received, we will inspect the book’s condition within three calendar days of receiving it, and we will send you an email to confirm receipt of your returned item. We will also notify you of the status of your refund.

After the confirmation email is sent to you, the refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within 5 to 7 days, based on the card or payment service provider. Refund timelines are subject to delays by your bank or payment provider, which are beyond our control.

Late or missing refunds:

If you haven’t received a refund yet, first check your bank account/credit card company again, it may take some processing time before your refund is officially posted.

We reserve the right to deny refunds for items returned without proper authorisation, outside the stated timeframes, or in violation of the conditions outlined in this policy.

Shipping

Non-Defective Products:

The customer will be responsible for the return shipping, and the expense incurred for the return shipping has to be borne by the customer; Shipping expenses for non-defective product returns will not be borne by us.

Damaged or Defective Items:

Wherever feasible or applicable, we will provide shipping service for returns, and you will be responsible for the proper handover of the product to the return pickup service provider.

In case of a non-serviceable area or pin code for return shipping pickup, you will be responsible for the arrangement of return shipping. Reimbursement for return shipping of defective items will be capped at the lower of (a) the forward shipping charges we incurred or (b) the shipping charges you paid during order placement, if applicable. Any excess cost must be borne by the customer; if any additional expense is incurred for the return shipping, it must be borne by the customer. Shipping expenses for the out-of-policy return will not be borne by us,

Do not ship any product without prior authorisation via email or other written electronic communication from our support team. Unauthorised returns may be rejected.

By initiating a return, the customer agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Used Book Store and OM Adhiparasakthi Old Book Shop from any claims, liabilities, or damages arising from misuse, misrepresentation, or fraudulent return attempts.

Exceptions & Limitations

  • Tampering Clause: Products showing signs of tampering, alteration, or misuse will not be eligible for return or refund.
  • Digital Products Clause: Digital products, including eBooks, downloadable content, or access codes, are non-refundable once delivered or accessed.
  • Force Majeure Clause: We are not liable for delays or failures in processing returns or refunds due to events beyond our control, including but not limited to natural disasters, strikes, or government restrictions.
  • Refund timelines are indicative and subject to delays by your bank or payment provider. We are not liable for such delays.

This policy shall be governed by the laws of Tamil Nadu, and any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of courts located in Chennai.

This policy is subject to change without prior notice. The version applicable to your purchase is the one published on our website at the time of order placement.
