About the Author

Paramhansa Yogananda was the first Indian yoga master to establish his life’s work in the West. Even before his birth, his mission was laid out by Babaji and Lahiri Mahasaya. His guru, Swami Sri Yukleswar, then prepared him for the rigours of introducing Kriya Yoga to the West.

Yogananda set out for America in 1920. He crisscrossed the United States extensively on lecture tours during which many thousands thronged to hear the yoga master from India. He spent the rest of his life teaching, lecturing. Writing and directing an expanding worldwide work. His spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi, has sold millions of copies and is the best-selling spiritual autobiography of all time.

The great master’s life and work have helped launch and continue to inspire a spiritual revolution. Hundreds of thousands of seekers around the world have considered themselves his disciples.

Swami Kriyananda became a disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda in 1948. His great guru trained him for a life of editing, writing, and lecturing to disseminate the teachings of Kriya Yoga worldwide. He has given thousands of lectures in many countries, written over eighty-five books, and composed over 400 pieces of uplifting music.

Kriyananda is the founder of Ananda Sangha, a worldwide organisation that disseminates Yogananda’s teachings. In 1968, he founded a spiritual co-operative community that has expanded to eight communities and ashrams in the United States, Europe, and India based on Yoganan-da’s ideal of “world brotherhood colonies.”

Kriyananda was recently appointed to membership in the prestigious Club of Budapest, joining such luminaries as the Dalai Lama. He lives in Gurgaon, India.
