This book introduces Grameen II, a refined and adaptable evolution of the traditional Grameen model, currently employed to financially support families in need in over a hundred countries through savings and loan programs. It details how a leading institution successfully transformed its system. “”The Poor Always Pay Back”” explains Grameen II to policymakers, practitioners, and the development community, demonstrating how it addresses key microfinance challenges: accessible savings, flexible loan options, self-sufficiency, and independent funding, alongside product development for retirees and their children’s education. Offering insights into practical poverty alleviation strategies in developing countries, this book provides evidence of the saving potential of those with limited resources on a large scale. The success of this approach confirms the financial reliability of the poor, and Grameen II demonstrates their capacity to save and repay loans when given the opportunity.
